Objectives

By the end of this 2-3 hour e learning course, you will:

• Recognise how Legionnaires’ disease develops and how it affects people’s health
• Get up to date with your legal responsibilities in preventing and monitoring Legionella
• Understand the most common places that Legionella bacteria are found
• Explain the process of carrying out a risk assessment for Legionella
• Identify and control the spread of harmful bacteria
• Have a working knowledge of control measures that can reduce the risks from Legionella
• Appreciate why it’s important to constantly monitor, review and update Legionella control measures

• Understand the hazardous environments where Legionella is found
• Water systems – understanding the risks and assessing them
• Cooling systems, hot and cold water systems and spa pools
• Recognising hazards, identifying who might be at risk and implementing controls
• Record your assessment findings, review and update
• Looking at responsibilities, training and communication for employers and employees
• Operating, monitoring and inspecting the water system
• Testing the water quality, cleaning and disinfecting
• Residential settings – how to control water systems and avoid stagnation

Assessment

At the end of this course, you will need to take an online exam containing 20 multiple-choice questions. The exam is marked automatically and you’ll find out your results straight away. A pass mark of 85% is required, however, if you are unsuccessful, you can re-take the exam as many times as you need to at no extra charge.

Who is this Course for?

This course is aimed at anyone in control of premises, such as a dutyholder, landlord, letting agent, employer or self-employed business owner. Regardless of the size of the premises, you must be mindful of the dangers of Legionella. Landlords are responsible for organising risk assessments in order to keep tenants from harm.
