NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations Telehandler

Objectives

At the end of the NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations, candidates will be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills required to update their CSCS card for a Telehandler.

To achieve this qualification, you'll need to complete three units: two core units and one specific to your chosen category. If you've already passed the two core units as part of another plant NVQ qualification, there's no need to retake them. These core units are:

• Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace (Core Unit)
• Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace (Core Unit)

The third, category-specific unit for this Level 2 NVQ is:

• Preparing and Operating Telescopic Handlers to Lift and Transfer Loads in the Workplace (Category Specific)

Agenda

This Level 2 Telescopic Handler qualification covers the following endorsements. Please refer to the list on the back of your Red CPCS/NPORS card to find out which category endorsements you can be awarded with:

• Telescopic Handler all Sizes
• Telescopic Handler all Sizes (Excluding 360°)
• Telescopic Handler all Sizes (Including 360°)
• Telescopic Handler Industrial Telescopic
• Telescopic Handler up to 9 Metres

Assessment

There are no written exams for this qualification, so no classroom-based lessons will take place. To pass this Level 2 NVQ, you’ll be assessed on your ability to operate a telescopic handler and demonstrate your working knowledge of various elements of the role.

During a professional discussion, you will be asked to provide evidence of your knowledge, understanding and decision-making in the form of photos, videos and other documentation. To give you an idea of what’s expected, you may be asked to show evidence of:
 

• Your Red NPORS or CPCS card (NPORS cards must hold the CPCS embossed logo)
• A risk assessment
• Time sheets
• Method statements
• An inspection report
• Witness testimony

*Candidates MUST have passed the CITB Health and Safety Touch Screen Test, within the last 2 years*

Once you’ve passed your NVQ assessment, your Red ‘Trained Operator’ card will be upgraded to the Blue ‘Competent Operator’ CPCS or NPORS card.

Who Should Attend?

If you’re a Red NPORS or CPCS cardholder with over six months on-site experience and you’re ready to progress to the Blue ‘Competent Operator’ card, this qualification is for you.

Please note, you will be assessed before enrolling, to confirm your eligibility.

Prerequisites

Applicants MUST be at least 16 years old and have a good understanding of the English language. You will need to hold either the Red NPORS card (CPCS embossed) or the Red CPCS card in this category. This means you should have already passed either the NPORS N010 Telescopic Handler course or the CPCS A17 Telescopic Handler course. In addition to this, you must have at least six months? work experience on a construction site, operating telescopic handlers.
